Snorkelling & Scuba Diving
The Red Sea's clear azure waters and coral reefs draw diving enthusiasts to return every year. Sharm El Sheikh is considered to be the most extraordinary diving destination in Red Sea.
There is some shore diving from Sharm, but boat trips are necessary to access the best reefs. The dive sites are diverse and abundant in hard and soft coral formations and a range of marine life, including jacks, snappers and barracudas. Some of the world's most famous dive sites such as Ras Mohammed and the wreck of the Thistlegorm await the experienced diver. The Straits of Tiran have four circular reefs rising out of deep water and is surrounded by steep dropoffs. Ras Mohammed also has steep dropoffs to depths of over seventy metres. There are shallow, calm coral gardens as well as some excellent drifts in strong currents. For the more advanced diver there are day boats going as far as the wrecks of the Dunraven and Thistlegorm. Alternatively, you can go on a mini safari and stay overnight on a boat.
Even if you're not a diver, you can still marvel at the wonders of the Red Sea by means of a snorkelling trip. You can choose from snorkelling from the shore at some of the stunning local sites, take an organised boat trip or even charter your own boat for the day. These trips include an experienced guide to show you some of the best locations and marine life.
